Do I have to be a Lutheran to attend?
Absolutely not! As a matter of fact, our members come from a variety of backgrounds. We’re a diverse group of people united by the love that Jesus has for all of us!
What are your worship services like?
We have two distinct styles of worship at Shepherd of the Lakes. We offer a service that finds its roots in the historic liturgy of the Christian Church. It incorporates a responsive liturgy and hymns accompanied by organ and piano. We also have a service that is more contemporary in nature. Our praise band called, “Faith Alive” leads the congregation in modern songs by current Christian artists. The form is less structured than a traditionally liturgical service.

How do I join the church?
We have a class designed to meet you where you’re at in your faith walk. It is broken into three steps.
Step 1—This is a five week introduction to the basic teachings of the Christian faith. This section is designed for those with no substantive church background, as well as those who have been away from church for a lengthy period of time.
Step 2—This is a four week class that shares what makes us distinct as Lutheran Christians. Currently active Christians that come from another faith tradition can plan to attend this section. Step 1 students continue their Christian growth.
Step 3—People attending Step 1 and Step 2 are joined by currently active members of another Lutheran congregation that are transferring into membership of Shepherd of the Lakes. In this 3 week section we learn what God expects from a church member.

Do I have to be a member to have my child baptized?
No. Please be in contact with our pastor to schedule a meeting to discuss this blessed event!
Can I schedule a wedding in your church?
We do not require that a person be a Shepherd of the Lakes member to have a wedding in our church. We relish the opportunity to enjoy this milestone with you. We do ask all couples to attend pre-marital counseling with our pastor. For details on scheduling and special fees please contact our church office at 810-227-5099.
I’m in trouble financially. Can your church help?
First and foremost we can help by sharing the Good News of a God who loves you and is in control, even during the storms of life. These are trying times and our members are united in prayer and support for each other! But we also have a partnership with the organization LOVE INC. LOVE INC. screens potential clients and then refers at-need residents to local churches who provide goods and services for assistance. Because of the high volume of requests we cannot help each person directly, but are eager to connect you with LOVE INC. so that your need can be met. A ministry we do offer in partnership with LOVE INC. is a “Personal Needs Pantry,” which provides items such as toothpaste, deodorant, razors, etc…
Is there financial assistance available for your school?
Yes! We are eager to provide Christian education to your child at our excellent school. We strive to work with families from all economic backgrounds and never turn a child away due to finances.
